The Stupid High School AU Where Hardly Anyone's Gay: Gerard/LynZ by
impertinence ; interband, het, does what it says on the package. One of the most fantastically gross and awkward high school romances ever written. FABULOUS.
As lovers can by
sinuous_curve and
flickerofyou ; PatD, Ryan/Spencer; Lovely, lovely. That one where Spencer's a doctor and Ryan's a writer and they've been together forever.
If you know my name, tell it to me and If you were blind I'd know who you are by
skoosiepants ; Interband, gen(ish); Jon Walker is a Unicorn. Not as crack as you might expect.
A Time and Place by
skoosiepants ; Panic/High School Musical crossover, Brendon/Chad, Chad/Ryan Evans, Brendon/Jon; Brendon’s not exactly sure how it happens, but somewhere in New York he accidentally starts dating a guy.
Apply Some Pressure by
onneonlights ; MCR, Brian/Bob, rimming and cigarettes. Oddly sweet.
Campus by
bellheim ; MCR, Gerard/Bob; It's about the art. And the social awkwardness. Now w/ bonus Mikey/Ray/Frank.
Building Empires by
of_evangeline ; PatD, Spencer/Brendon. Spencer finds Brendon. (somewhat abstract)
Shimmer by
disarm_d ; PatD, Spencer/Brendon. That one where Brendon has wings and faerie glitter and the whole thing is really fraught.
Wonderful Eyes and a Risque Mouth by
sneaky_sena ; PaTD, Spencer/OMC, Spencer/Brendon. Brendon doesn't always notice things until they're right in front of his face.
A Little Finesse by
adellyna ; Cobra, The Academy Is..., Gabe/William; A Chicago romance in the early days of everything; sometimes they go bowling.
Heaven or Las Vegas by
sevenfists ; MCR, PaTD, Bob/Brendon; Summer romances are fun while they last.
Quarterlife Crisis by
formerlydf ; PaTD implied gsf, Patrick. Everyone knows what a midlife crisis is... or that one with the many Brendons but only one Brendon and mediator!Patrick
My Blood is Warmer When You're Here by
secrethappiness ; MCR, PatD, Spencer/Brian. Spencer's taking over.
One of These Things by
arsenicjade ; MCR, PatD, Mikey/Jon. Probably one of my favourite things at the moment. Jon is the fourth wheel.
Finding the Words to Say by
nova33 ; PatD, Jon/Ryan, Spencer/Brendon. Superpowers don't necessarily make things easier.
The Clock on the Wall Has Been Stuck for Days by
battie_hattie ; Patd, Ryan/Brendon. Ryan works at the women's clothing store in the mall; his eye is caught by the new guy at the hair salon across the way.
as long as you look far away by
cmonkatiekatie ; PatD, Jon/Cassie, Jon/Tom, Jon/his camera, Jon/his band. Jon hasn't heard from Tom in months when he gets the email.
A Rough First Draft by
zarah5 ; PatD, Ryan/Spencer. Working without a map, working out this relationship thing.
To spy my shadow in the sun by
formerlydf ; Interband, Gabe/William. Those games that aren't really games; throwing things at William's head.

~things~
1a. Ryan and his stupid V-neck tshirts and necklace and stupid, stupid hippie bracelets and his ridiculous face. Ryan fucking Ross. Ugh. Why do I find you so attractive right now, why? (Also Spencer, although that's a bit more expected).
( visual aids - mini spam )
1b. Is anyone else disconcerted by how skinny Jon is looking though? Mostly in that one picture, but... *worries*
Addendum to 1b: Today I was told that I am very maternal, except for how I'm far too cocky for that. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MEANS.
2. Frank Iero. Just -- someone on my flist has a tag that says 'i totally give up and bandom wins' and that? Is exactly how I feel today. I just -- his precious face, and the lyrics that would make me love him ridiculously if I didn't already and the song titles and ~hands~ EVERYTHING. I'm going to see Leathermouth even though I can't really afford it and I just bought this hoodie which is ridiculous because a) they didn't even have it in my size, b) it is averaging over 100 degrees here daily and c) I don't buy merch, EVER. WTF FRANK, WTF. (also
bexless' post, which amused me to no end).
( Small aside for stupid faces )
3. Mamma Mia. Was very good. Much thanks to
phaballa and ~other people~ for recommending it. Everyone was very pretty, and also they sang catchy pop songs, which is basically all I need in a movie-going experience. A+++.
4a. Boys. I am going through a boy phase. This means lots of oogling, mostly. And having sex dreams about my male friends, apparently, which is... not bad. But slightly disconcerting. :/
4b. I hung out with my friend Jana today and we went out to dinner and got coffee and bought books, but the point is that our waiter at dinner was the most adorable boy ever. Giant brown puppy eyes and super helpful and all of, like, sixteen. And when we were leaving we said "have a nice night," you know, as you do. And he said "I will!" all cheerful back to us, it was so fucking adorable. We were *charmed*, ok, and we left, like, a fifty percent tip. And little notes on our receipts telling him how awesome he was. Ugh, boys.
5. I am so far behind on my flist that I am not even going to try to catch up. Yesterday I got to skip=400 and was still on July 30th - there's a good 8 days between then and when I last checked it, so I am officially giving up. I am also officially back from my unofficial hiatus, though. I missed you guys while I was hibernating. *smishes*

Sometimes I just click on stuff and start reading it without reading that warnings, and fall madly in love with it, and then... it's too late to turn back. This is one of those things, and it is totally worth the squicky stuff - the plot and execution more than make up for it. Notice the lack of character death warning.
Bandom: Interband
Someone Has To by
Bob and Brian have an arrangement.
That's what Brian calls it in his head, at least. Out loud he doesn't call it anything, because he knows Bob about as well as anyone and that means he knows that sometimes the subtleties of words make Bob nervous.
Buenos Noches from a Lonely Room by
Mikey climbs through the window and sits next to him. Frank doesn't say anything, and he manages to hide his surprise well enough he thinks. Instead he hands over the cigarette and pulls another from the pack in the pocket of his shorts. The cellophane is slick under his fingertips.
Torch by
He does find time to have lunch with Mikey, though. It's not a great idea when he has a secret like this, because Mikey is great at getting Gerard to spill everything. He's like a master of interrogation, and Gerard is helpless in front of his powers.
"So I have a crush on this guy," he blurts out, pretty much two seconds after Mikey slides into the diner booth across from him and nods hello.
Mikey just blinks.
There's a Reason They Call it a Crush by
“I’m going to Starbucks,” Brendon said by way of greeting as he pushed past Spencer’s raised arm.
“Actually, this is my apartment,” Spencer replied with a raised eyebrow, closing the front door and turning to face Brendon. “But I can see how you’d get confused.”
“I’m going to Starbucks, and you need to tell me if I look good.” Brendon turned in a circle to show off his blue t-shirt and snug jeans. “What do you think?”
And Once a Time by
"Three days is not a lot of time," Spencer says, doing his best not to panic.
Earl Mikey shrugs. "It's Pete. He said, 'I'm coming up; you should have a banquet for me; how about Tuesday?'"
"And you said, 'Yes'?" Spencer asks.
The Words We Say by
The first time Brendon Urie kisses a boy, he's seventeen.
No Fellow Could Ignore by
Ryan starts smiling for real, and it's just small, but persistent, like he can't stop it. Spencer still knows that too. "Hey," he says.
"Hey," says Spencer.
Spencer's mom rolls her eyes. "Very manly, boys," she says. "I like your hat, Ryan. Come on, now."
Ryan knocks his shoulder against Spencer's as they start walking towards the baggage claim. It might just be an accident, though.
New Kid Makes a Rule by
Joe is maybe totally, bimotastically, gayotronically queer for Spencer.
"Cool," Spencer says. "We need Jell-O."
"Cool," Joe repeats, ignoring the flush that's rising to his face. "It should be lime."
If You Think You're Bulletproof, You're Right by
"Are we doing the right thing?" Gerard whispers, breath warm against Frank's jaw. His fingers are shaking slightly, tracing the rays inked into Frank's elbow, up and down and around in a star shape.
Smile Real Wide by
Veronica Mars
Broken Toys by
And she's looking at you and Logan's looking at her, and you take the shot glass and try to smile.
The first shot tastes horrible, and the second one tastes a little better, and the third one's not so bad and Logan won't let Lilly give you the fourth one. You're lying on the bed with your head in the pillows, tracing the cable that comes out of the ceiling fan with your pointed toe. Which is kind of like a sobriety test, and you're so passing it. Mostly.
Harry Potter
Lamp in the Cooling Room by
She sings, "Here come I, the death watch beetle. Chewing away at the great cathedral."
He whips around and his funny-looking coat billows open, its perfect pleats separating like one of those Oriental paper fans her mother fancies so much. Rain drops fly from it and splatter over her face. "Be quiet," he hisses, and she recoils. "I can't think with your whinging and snivelling."
He raises a finger in her direction, and it shakes like a divining rod. She nods, bites her bottom lip, and stares at the dried blood caked under his fingernail. Maroon, she thinks. It'd been one of her vocabulary words that week. It means dark, brownish red—like the stain under the man's nail—and also a firework used to warn for danger.
Time and Again by
Lee Jordan looked reflexively in the mirror one last time, and sighed in exasperation as he caught himself doing it. He knew he looked fine: he'd been doing this for years after all. He knew there weren't any tell-tale little giveaways. There never had been, really. He tousled his dreads, smirked at his reflection, and slammed shut the lid of his trunk.
A Lifetime of Afters by
Draco sat down and unfolded The Daily Prophet, bracing himself for the inevitable breathless headlines about Potter's victory.
A photograph of Granger and Weasley walking alongside Hagrid greeted him instead. Draco glanced at the headline.
HARRY POTTER'S FUNERAL TO BE HELD ON FRIDAY
25 July 2008 @ 05:53 pm
My parents both think I'm corrupting my younger sisters. My dad is appalled that they're feminists, horrified that Rebecca's favourite books are about gay characters. My mother today begged me to teach Naomi "good" things only. She hates that Naomi's myspace song is Marilyn Manson's "This is the New Shit," hates that her friends all wear black and have mutlicoloured hair, but. Those are some of the smartest, most mature kids I know -- they actually read books, which is unusual for their generation, they're all dealing remarkably well with tough family situations, and they take care of each other (to the point of over protectiveness, sometimes). My mother is scared of Naomi trying drugs or having sex or whatever, but - she knows how to make good decisions. I raised her to question the thing people tell her, and to do her own research and to ensure her own safety in a given situation, and I think she's up to coping with the bug bad world on her own terms -- If my mother would just let her be, instead of expecting her to mess up. The same goes for my other sister, Rebecca. If my mother could just approach them with the understanding that they're doing the best they can, that they need guidance and someone to love them even when they inevitably mess up, rather than with the expectation that they will in some way mess up or disappoint her. I just think everyone could be better off.

Having never heard either Leathermouth or Reggie and The Full Effect, I still think I might go to this show. Just for the chance to be within a couple feet of Frank Iero, really. I just have to find someone to go with me -- my RL friends... would not be into it. My sister, the 14yo, likes to tease me for the whole mcr/fob/patd thing, but her friends would probably not object to being dragged along...

Looks Okay On You by
One of the kids at the party, a friend of a friend, makes him something sweet with rum. His best girl friend rubs sugar on the rim of the glass and keeps an eye on him all night, even though all he does is talk a little louder and lean on people a little more heavily. No one minds holding him up, though, and he repays their kindness by telling him how much he likes them and how nice he thinks they all are.
He feels pretty stupid the next morning, but at least he didn't get violent.
And finally, La Guera by Cherrie Moraga, which is a feminist theory essay that I have to read for class this week. It is about the experience of being biracial and lesbian and growing up in America, but also, more generally, about intersections of oppressions. You should read it because a) it's fascinating and well written, and b) it's short enough that if you don't appreciate it, you really haven't wasted any time.

You know what's lame, guys? Gender policing. I hate it, and today it just keeps popping up.
Also lame:
- that this happened (although a+ for the cops actually doing somehting about it).
- how completely fucked my sleep schedule is, and the fact that I can't fix it because it's too hot to sleep in my house.
There are some awesome things, though:
- you, for starters, + all of my new friends. *waves*
- people in general, and women specifically - here and here.

"Wanna buy some movies?" he said in the most Mafia-ish voice Frank had been able to teach him.
"Mikey Way!" the guy said, turning around so quickly he almost fell over. He saved himself by looping his arms around Mikey's waist, leaning in.
Mikey blinked. "Was I drunk when I met you, or something?"
"You've never met me," the guy said cheerfully. "What kind of movies?"
Oh. He was hot, Mikey thought, and apparently either ballsy or stupid, to be hanging all over Mikey in the middle of school like that. It was nice.

Jamia gets up and feels a little, dunno, different, and she's late, and she doesn't worry about it too much, and then she gets up the next day and feels the same thing and takes a pregnancy test, and it's positive, and she starts jumping up and down in the bathroom and making this really embarrassing high-pitched oooooooo-ing sound, because she's going to have a fucking baby, and, even more amazing, she really wants to have a fucking baby, and when stuff like that lines up sometimes you can't control the noises you make.

Spencer can’t stop smiling and Jon can’t stop smiling back at him and neither thing makes any sense at all. They have no reason to be this happy, none at all. Jon would say that the writing isn’t going well, but that would imply that there is actual writing going on and that is not the case.
And yet, here they are. Smiling.
And not just Jon and Spencer, Ryan and Brendon too. Maybe not at each other in particular, but at everything else.
They’re passing the time and it feels like vacation, but there’s this thing in the background, this we need to get our shit together thing. But they’re smiling enough that the thing starts to feel temporary. It’ll come when it comes.

He's not sure what else he'll need. Probably he can get by with just this. He picks up a bomber jacket, though, feeling jaunty, and pulls it on, testing the fit. It's nice and warm, and probably unnecessary in June, but he doesn't take it off. He wishes there were a mirror somewhere in the store.
The goggles fit snugly around his eyes and give everything a slight greenish cast. He tightens the knot on the old cotton strap before tying it again.
Brendon looks around one more time and then hefts the backpack up onto his shoulders. He feels brave, like an explorer.
He's about to leave and go back to the basement he's been hiding out in, but he turns, takes one last look around. He walks back over to the cash register and reaches out, very gently, and presses the cashier's eyelids shut.

Because it would be one thing if Frank just sometimes let Jamia play with his face, or if Frank was just kind of a neat-freak, or if Frank did just paint his nails with actual polish instead of liquid White-Out because he was a ridiculous perfectionist, but... Bob isn't entirely convinced that that's the case. Frank comes to Bob's house for dinner a couple weeks later, mouth sort of shiny, with heart-shaped studs in his ears. Afterward his parents ask Bob what's up with him, and Bob says that, no, he and his girlfriend play around, and Frank just doesn't mind it. Except the more that Bob's around Frank, the less he thinks it's all Jamia's influence.
Jamia is really cool girl, and she does like to look pretty. She does wear make-up and a dress or skirt when she pleases, but she isn't overtly girly in a way that means she also pushes her preferences off onto the people around her, and yet Frank is -- Frank's kind of dainty. He likes picking out accessories for Jamia at stores, paints his nails all different colors beyond just black. He seems to really dig bright things, the more Bob gets to know, draping soft scarves around himself and even trying on the stuff Jamia tries on in sizes that will fit him. For a while Bob thinks Frank's just funny and playful, but he starts to realize how naive he's being and finally asks Jamia at lunch one day.
Bob clears his throat and tries, "Have you ever noticed that Frank's kind of... " And Jamia watches him, not giving Bob any help as he tries to talk around what he means -- what he doesn't have words to explain. He says, "Frank's, um. The makeup and skirts in stores and, I don't know. It's sort of," and shrugs.

I sort of want to post a bunch of Things That Are Awesome About Today, but mostly I have to be up in five hours to drive to Flagstaff so we can do flagstaff pride and ANI FUCKING DIFRANCO (I'm pretty excited, actually).
Ah, fuck it. It's not like I'm going to get any sleep anyway.
Things That Are Awesome About Today (and also this week)
- I just spent 12 hours in the studio, printmaking. I finished three prints. Um. I would have liked to finish more, though. \o/
- A Softer World
- ANI FUCKING DIFRANCO
- Scene!boy and Historian!girl seemed charmed rather than wigged by my sudden ranting about gender issues today during class, which is... probably good.
- I've read so many good stories lately, it's ridiculous. Some of these (but certainly not all) include:
wemblee's post of TONS of queercore music, which you should so check out, and the fact that she remembered to email me about it even though we talked AGES ago. :D
- Yummy vegan food.
- The new Portishead album, Third, especially track eight, Machine Gun. Yay portishead! (also, lol for Portishead still having scene cred ten years later.)
Um, yes. I... should probably take a shower now. Blah, sleep.
P.s. I hate checking my tires. Blah, cars. D:

Putting the B Back in Subtle by-algernon_mouse and
secrethappiness; MCR, Bob/Brian (And, also, this sudden proliferation of bob/brian is a++ fabulous in my book).
When You Were Sweet byjamjar; FOB, TAI, CS, etc, William/Patrick; spontaneous sexswap, teenage broken hearts, overprotective bandmates.
Tell Us A Story bybexless and
imogenedisease; Interband, Frank/Gerard, William/Travis(/Gabe), Jon/Spencer, Pete/Patrick, Mikey/Gabe, others; Can't Hardly Wait bandom AU (!!!). Even more awesome than you might expect!
Skin of the Canvas bysinsense; MCR, Frank/Gerard; Gerard is a recovering alcoholic in art school and Frank is his model, but more importantly, THIS IS AWESOME. (also gave me warm fuzzies because - ART STUDENTS!) :D
In a Shroud of Frost byflimsy; PaTD, Jon-centric, Jon/Spencer-ish; Ryan burns his guitar and time contracts, Spencer disappears, "Burn it all down." Lovely and strange.
Act as If byafterthefair; PaTD, Spencer/Ryan; Nothing really changes, a wine country vacation, "the best decision I ever made."
- Yummy vegan food.
- The new Portishead album, Third, especially track eight, Machine Gun. Yay portishead! (also, lol for Portishead still having scene cred ten years later.)

I sometimes really suck at leaving comments, just randomly, and replying to them in my own journal, and I always feel bad about it, but. *shrugs* I don't know, it doesn't matter, except that I'm pretty sure that this fic is another one that I failed to comment on when I read it last night.
So, yes. I have a few other things I'd like to rec, actually, but I think I'll do those later/tomorrow, because right now I want to talk about
impertinence 's Frank/Gerard genderswap epic, Hear Me Out. This story... is fabulous. It's permanent magical genderswap, which is to say, Frank becomes then stays a girl (or rather, female-bodied) and has to deal with it. The story spans two+ years, and is just. Amazing and painful.
....we live in a toy?

Best thing:
Leave me (like you found me) by
"It's pretty gay," an acquaintance in eighth grade declared one day, "that you hang out with your brothers so much. I hate my brother."
Vicky took bite out of her apple and smiled sweetly. "I'm sure he hates you too."

Awesome things about today:
“I can't really borrow a buzz saw from my uncle and return it covered in brains. I guess we're going to have to go to Home Depot. Goddamn it, I hate that place.” He runs a hand across his face smearing blood in streaks all the way to his hairline. “Blood smells fucking ah-may-zing. I'm so turned on right now, it's out of control.” He cuts Gerard a look. “How great do I look covered in blood?”
“You know you look great, asshole. I've told you how many times how hot you are covered in blood?”
“A guy never gets tired of compliments like 'hey, baby, that arterial spray makes your ass look fuckable.'”
I am going to argue further: Livejournal has become an outlet for women's sexuality precisely because of this. We allow ourselves to be sexual in ways we perhaps do not incarnate, not just because of the pseudonymity, or the insulating safety of geography, but because we do know that our consent on livejournal is not just meaningful, but absolute. Because we know the force of our No, we can Yes.

I...completely failed to leave feedback on this fic because I couldn't figure out what to say, but. This is gorgeous, lyrical; it feels like memories, and is just... completely breathtaking and heart-wrenching. So, yes, that.
Pete thought, suddenly, about the other things he’d memorised: like the way Mikey smoked Marlboro Reds like Gerard unless he wanted to feel healthier about himself, when he occasionally bought Lights, or the way he claimed that feeling hotter when you wear black is nothing more than a myth. Pete just said, though, “Yeah, okay,” because there wasn’t much else to say.
Oh, also-- someone just posted at
wolfshirts about a bandom boyband AU, and all I could think was "wait, isn't there already one of those?" So I tried to find it, and couldn't, but, um. I'm not crazy, right? It does exist?

cutest thing about today:
egg babies are forever by
geneli4
MCR, Frank/Gerard
...it's like every meet and greet ever except on his left, Gerard is deep in conversation with one of their fans, his fingers suspended in the air between them, smiling all goofy and nodding his head. So okay, he's smiling and nodding, but he's not signing and there's an egg hanging around this girl's neck on a polka-dotted ribbon, an egg with a face drawn on it and a little knit cap, and Gerard is fascinated, and it's totally fucking up the flow. Totally.

One of the hottest stories I've read since airgiodslv's Tell Me to Stop (although sans D/s overtones). Delicious, delicious het.
