Random question, but does anyone have a version of cobra's I Kissed a Boy without all the beginning and ending mixtape shit -- just the song part?

I am trying to make the most epic mix of all time and I need that song.

yesssssssssssss.

"a few things may rhyme with circus?"

also I got a tumblr if anyone cares: http://lilyliedtome.tumblr.com/

yes. everything i keep saying to the world is mostly just that. YES. YES.

I don't even know how to deal with how strange my life seems to have become. But hey, I might get to see Amanda Plamer in LA. And there's nothing better than nights spent talking, even if.

Bands I would like to hear more of, as I only have one song (or two, or an album, whatever) by them:

Anberlin
Of Montreal
The Cliks*
The Distillers**
The Hold Steady
hellogoodbye
Sound Tribe Sector 9
MC Lars
Stars
Streetlight Manifesto
Zap Mama

I'm proposing a trade -- you give me a list of bands you want to hear more of, and I'll see what I can do, and in return you do the same for me. Any takers?

OH, ALSO, I made [vegan!] arugula and toasted pecan pesto today and it turned out DELICIOUS. This is notable A) because I've never made pesto before, B) because I didn't use a recipe and C) because I got to use veggies from a local farm, courtesy of Desert Roots Farm's CSA program! Today was the first pick-up day, so the theme of my morning has been OM NOM NOM VEGGIES.

*I don't really like what I've heard, but people seem to think they're pretty awesome, so maybe I'm listening to the wrong stuff?
**and I'm only about four years late on that one.

It seems like I always say I'm going to do something in this journal and then never actually do it.

1. If you gave me your address in mid August expect to get an envelope or package soon -- each package contains some small little present(s), a band or activism flier with a note scribbled somewhere on it, and possibly something else. If for some reason you really want me to send you something and didn't give me your address at the time, feel free to email it to me in the next couple of days (lilyliedtome(at)gmail.com) and I'll send something to you as well.

2. I promised a series of posts of Music That Saved My Life, which are still coming in the next few weeks - I haven't been online as much as I'd like lately.

3. I said I'd respond to comments... And I still might, just don't count on it. I'm trying to comment more on the posts I read, though.

4. Thanks to those who left me comments the other day when I emo'd all over the internets. *smishes you all*

5. I made blueberry-oatmeal muffins this morning from scratch and they were OM NOM NOM delicious! \o/

6. UGH, meetings.

One of the best concerts I've ever seen was Bitch in Flagstaff. She came up for a day long musicfest at NAU last April and was just amazing. The sound system sucked, is was freezing and we were all outside and I couldn't feel my toes, but there were only 30 or so people there and we all really wanted to be there. And Bitch got up on stage and talked about working with Ani and told all these stories about her songs as she played them.

Today was the first day of classes for this semester -- I looked totally fab in a sort of assholish blue polo that I got super cheap at old navy yesterday (mostly because it reminds me of The Gabe), and my classes were fabulous - painting and ceramics FTW. Holy shit, I love my major. How cool is is that I get to go to school and make stuff all day? *hands*

And then I came home and passed out because I, literally, have heat exhaustion. Like - nausea and muscle pain and overheating, etc. Yay? Ahahaha, I don't even know - I drink more water than any person I know, and I haven't really been exerting myself, so I'm not sure how this happened.

In other news:

Mixtape - YAY!
GABE - I THINK I WILL KEEP YOU.
Also, some food would be nice. Actually, I think that's what I'm going to go do now...

I think I'm going to do a series of posts of albums/artists that saved my life. I'm going to try and do one every couple of days for the next few weeks. There'll probably be some stuff I've uploaded before (the Format, anyone?), but most of it should be new. Expect: Ani Difranco, Sage Francis, Bright Eyes, Buddy Wakefield, The Format, Bitch and Animal, Rilo Kiley, Bikini Kill/Le Tigre, Poe, Hanson, and Plumb among others.

This album, however, is not one of them.

I was at this party a couple of weeks ago for my friend Cami's birthday, and some scene-ish guy put his ipod on to a song by The Medic Droid. We started talking about bands, concerts, whatever, I don't really remember? But I remembered this band, so I looked them up, and they turned out to be a) myspace famous and b) local, and c) produced by Ryan Breen of Back Ted-n-Ted*, who I just happened to see live a few weeks ago and who are AMAZING. If you ever get the chance see Back Ted-n-Ted, seriously, DO IT. ANYWAY, I bought the album from itunes, liberated it from it's locked state, and uploaded it for you.

This is -- dance music for teenies. Sounds like: Metro Station but more self aware, uber "scene," ironic-funny.

The Medic Droid: Whats Your Medium**

DOWNLOAD ZIP (39 MB, includes album art)

*If anyone wants to rip me the files from their myspace I would pretty much love you forever -- the software I usually use to do so has FAILED to work lately, so I am sadly without illegal music.

** I kind of hate their album art, though.

Song I think is awesome:

Catch 22 - Keasby Nights

P.s. I have SO MUCH stuff to rec for you guys, it's ridiculous. Expect that sometime tonight*. Also possibly me rambling about music - the format's new band and an album upload of the Medic Droid - and vegan pizza. You've been warned, etc.

*west coast insomniac time, so possibly tomorrow morning

Hmm. I'm not sure yet about Conor Oberst's new album with the Mystic Valley Band. It's a little... boring, maybe? Or, not really. It's very pretty, and maybe slightly more folksy than Cassadega. As always, I find his voice really comforting, so it'll probably grow on me. Here, have a song: Milk Thistle (I do like this one, even if I'm not sure about the album). Well, actually, here, have the whole album:

Ugh, this test is fucking killing me. Take home essay tests? NOT COOL. (My time management skills? Probably also not cool. Still.)

ETA: Track 3 (Get-Well-Cards) sounds so much like Bob Dylan I could fucking cry.

1. I just remembered that i had a dream with Ani Difranco in it last night. ...a dream is a wish your heart makes? )

2. Finals, for the LOSE. >:(

3. Jack's Mannequin is the perfect rainy day band. I love them so much. I uploaded their album Everything in Transit for you guys, although it now occurs to me that I might have done it once before because I love them just that much. Ah, well. I also have their new itunes EP and new single, if anyone wants it (Just let me know. I don't have time to upload it right now, but I could do it tomorrow).

1. I have sexy new icons I want to upload and nowhere to put them! : (

Check it out, these are the new ones:

queershit

made by [info]pre_emptive . Isn't she just far too fabulous for life?

and this
i'd kid-nap you icon 5 copy

which I made because a) I didn't have a Pete icon, and b) i love that poem

If you were me, which two of these would you get rid of?

2. I have a bunch of random music uploaded. Here, have some albums:

The Butchies - Make Yr Life*
Conor Oberst - Conor Oberst
Jack's Mannequin - Everything in Transit
Mindless Self Indulgence - Alienating Our Audience
Propagandhi - Less Talk, More Rock
Tilly and The Wall - Bottoms of Barrels
Tilly and The Wall - Wild Like Children
Tegan and Sara - If It Was You

Song:
Bright Eyes - Milk Thistle

*I'd just like to point out that I love this album ridiculously. There needs to be more queer pop pop pop music in my life.

ETA: ahahaha, wow. I did not mean to post that then. Edited to fix... capitalisation and stuff.
