"...I like your sounds, maybe even better than your skin, the way it just barely hides everything else about you, the way you're so fucking forever underneath your flesh."
I'm rereading
arsenicjade 's TGAN for maybe the fifth time right now. I love this story. It is absolutely one of my favourite stories ever, and probably the only one I've reread so often. If it were a book it would be dog eared and beat up from from so many rereadings and from living in my bag. It is long and delicious -- each of the five parts on it's own is a complete story, and together they're perfect. Also, JC, which was more of a draw when I was fresh from popslash, but I do still love fanon JC kind of a lot. :D

Things I've had open in tags for way too long, but still can't seem to close, pt 1:
slodwick's re-post of this awesome thing.
wearemany's pete/patrick lesbian AU where they're both still boys.
so pete is in his fifth year of college -- he just finally realized that he had to be a gender studies major, had to, even if it meant he wasn't graduating yet. his favorite hangout is the lesbian-owned coffeeshop just off campus, which one night a week hosts poetry slams, which despite being we-shouldn't-have-to-say-this-you-should-just-get-it a safe space for womyn wordsmiths is pete's favorite place to share his newest writing. it's also his favorite place to meet chicks. and despite being a dude among many lesbians, it's also his surefire best chance of getting laid, because somehow he is the dude who every lesbian sleeps with once on her way to realizing just how little she likes dick. ("but i don't like it either!" pete always protests, before he has to listen to the lesbian of the week tell him how she finally realized she's in love with her roommate.) pete is alternately loved and hated by this poetry slam crowd, which suits him just fine.

The Stupid High School AU Where Hardly Anyone's Gay: Gerard/LynZ by

I've talked about my love for everything
miss_begonia has ever written before, I'm sure, but just in case you haven't heard - everything she writes is fabulous. Sweet and smooth, these are the stories I reread when I'm having a bad day.
“Brendon,” Ryan says, and his voice is low and quiet and curls up Brendon’s spine like a drunken serpent. Ryan’s fingers are long and thin. He taps a beat on the desk as he speaks.
“Yes?” Brendon asks.
“I think you’re magical,” Ryan says, “and I wanted to know – how would you feel about doing hair for a rock band?”

A Lifetime of Afters by
furiosity; Draco-centric; Warning: non-con, emotional trauma. Sometimes I just click on stuff and start reading it without reading that warnings, and fall madly in love with it, and then... it's too late to turn back. This is one of those things, and it is totally worth the squicky stuff - the plot and execution more than make up for it. Notice the lack of character death warning.
Bandom: Interband
Someone Has To by
Bob and Brian have an arrangement.
That's what Brian calls it in his head, at least. Out loud he doesn't call it anything, because he knows Bob about as well as anyone and that means he knows that sometimes the subtleties of words make Bob nervous.
Buenos Noches from a Lonely Room by
Mikey climbs through the window and sits next to him. Frank doesn't say anything, and he manages to hide his surprise well enough he thinks. Instead he hands over the cigarette and pulls another from the pack in the pocket of his shorts. The cellophane is slick under his fingertips.
Torch by
He does find time to have lunch with Mikey, though. It's not a great idea when he has a secret like this, because Mikey is great at getting Gerard to spill everything. He's like a master of interrogation, and Gerard is helpless in front of his powers.
"So I have a crush on this guy," he blurts out, pretty much two seconds after Mikey slides into the diner booth across from him and nods hello.
Mikey just blinks.
There's a Reason They Call it a Crush by
“I’m going to Starbucks,” Brendon said by way of greeting as he pushed past Spencer’s raised arm.
“Actually, this is my apartment,” Spencer replied with a raised eyebrow, closing the front door and turning to face Brendon. “But I can see how you’d get confused.”
“I’m going to Starbucks, and you need to tell me if I look good.” Brendon turned in a circle to show off his blue t-shirt and snug jeans. “What do you think?”
And Once a Time by
"Three days is not a lot of time," Spencer says, doing his best not to panic.
Earl Mikey shrugs. "It's Pete. He said, 'I'm coming up; you should have a banquet for me; how about Tuesday?'"
"And you said, 'Yes'?" Spencer asks.
The Words We Say by
The first time Brendon Urie kisses a boy, he's seventeen.
No Fellow Could Ignore by
Ryan starts smiling for real, and it's just small, but persistent, like he can't stop it. Spencer still knows that too. "Hey," he says.
"Hey," says Spencer.
Spencer's mom rolls her eyes. "Very manly, boys," she says. "I like your hat, Ryan. Come on, now."
Ryan knocks his shoulder against Spencer's as they start walking towards the baggage claim. It might just be an accident, though.
New Kid Makes a Rule by
Joe is maybe totally, bimotastically, gayotronically queer for Spencer.
"Cool," Spencer says. "We need Jell-O."
"Cool," Joe repeats, ignoring the flush that's rising to his face. "It should be lime."
If You Think You're Bulletproof, You're Right by
"Are we doing the right thing?" Gerard whispers, breath warm against Frank's jaw. His fingers are shaking slightly, tracing the rays inked into Frank's elbow, up and down and around in a star shape.
Smile Real Wide by
Veronica Mars
Broken Toys by
And she's looking at you and Logan's looking at her, and you take the shot glass and try to smile.
The first shot tastes horrible, and the second one tastes a little better, and the third one's not so bad and Logan won't let Lilly give you the fourth one. You're lying on the bed with your head in the pillows, tracing the cable that comes out of the ceiling fan with your pointed toe. Which is kind of like a sobriety test, and you're so passing it. Mostly.
Harry Potter
Lamp in the Cooling Room by
She sings, "Here come I, the death watch beetle. Chewing away at the great cathedral."
He whips around and his funny-looking coat billows open, its perfect pleats separating like one of those Oriental paper fans her mother fancies so much. Rain drops fly from it and splatter over her face. "Be quiet," he hisses, and she recoils. "I can't think with your whinging and snivelling."
He raises a finger in her direction, and it shakes like a divining rod. She nods, bites her bottom lip, and stares at the dried blood caked under his fingernail. Maroon, she thinks. It'd been one of her vocabulary words that week. It means dark, brownish red—like the stain under the man's nail—and also a firework used to warn for danger.
Time and Again by
Lee Jordan looked reflexively in the mirror one last time, and sighed in exasperation as he caught himself doing it. He knew he looked fine: he'd been doing this for years after all. He knew there weren't any tell-tale little giveaways. There never had been, really. He tousled his dreads, smirked at his reflection, and slammed shut the lid of his trunk.
A Lifetime of Afters by
Draco sat down and unfolded The Daily Prophet, bracing himself for the inevitable breathless headlines about Potter's victory.
A photograph of Granger and Weasley walking alongside Hagrid greeted him instead. Draco glanced at the headline.

If Infinity On High had come out while I was in high school -- I don't know. I probably would have been busy being too pretentious to listen to it, but if I ever had? I would have loved it. I'm such a sucker for a good turn of phrase.
I say this because FUCT actually did come out around my junior year, but a) everyone was listening to it and b) the production isn't nearly as clean. I have a hard time getting into something lyrically if everything else is distracting me, I guess.
--
I've been listening to Pretty. Odd. and the Anywhere Else But Here (by
zarah5 ) soundtrack for days (you should read it, by the way -- it's a long college AU and it is DELICIOUS).
I'm totally obsessed with The Wombat's Let's Dance to Joy Division -- I heard it on the radio the other day, and then I saw it on her soundtrack and it's just SO random and peppy. And I love the combination of really peppy music with totally depressive lyrics -- dichotomy is YUMMY.
--
So, new friends, should I do an intro post? I feel lame for asking, but I also feel lame assuming you want to know things about me (Which,er. My insecurities, let me show them to you - especially since I love it when other people talk about their lives).

One of the kids at the party, a friend of a friend, makes him something sweet with rum. His best girl friend rubs sugar on the rim of the glass and keeps an eye on him all night, even though all he does is talk a little louder and lean on people a little more heavily. No one minds holding him up, though, and he repays their kindness by telling him how much he likes them and how nice he thinks they all are.
He feels pretty stupid the next morning, but at least he didn't get violent.
And finally, La Guera by Cherrie Moraga, which is a feminist theory essay that I have to read for class this week. It is about the experience of being biracial and lesbian and growing up in America, but also, more generally, about intersections of oppressions. You should read it because a) it's fascinating and well written, and b) it's short enough that if you don't appreciate it, you really haven't wasted any time.

You know what's lame, guys? Gender policing. I hate it, and today it just keeps popping up.
Also lame:
- that this happened (although a+ for the cops actually doing somehting about it).
- how completely fucked my sleep schedule is, and the fact that I can't fix it because it's too hot to sleep in my house.
There are some awesome things, though:
- you, for starters, + all of my new friends. *waves*
- people in general, and women specifically - here and here.

"Wanna buy some movies?" he said in the most Mafia-ish voice Frank had been able to teach him.
"Mikey Way!" the guy said, turning around so quickly he almost fell over. He saved himself by looping his arms around Mikey's waist, leaning in.
Mikey blinked. "Was I drunk when I met you, or something?"
"You've never met me," the guy said cheerfully. "What kind of movies?"
Oh. He was hot, Mikey thought, and apparently either ballsy or stupid, to be hanging all over Mikey in the middle of school like that. It was nice.

Spencer can’t stop smiling and Jon can’t stop smiling back at him and neither thing makes any sense at all. They have no reason to be this happy, none at all. Jon would say that the writing isn’t going well, but that would imply that there is actual writing going on and that is not the case.
And yet, here they are. Smiling.
And not just Jon and Spencer, Ryan and Brendon too. Maybe not at each other in particular, but at everything else.
They’re passing the time and it feels like vacation, but there’s this thing in the background, this we need to get our shit together thing. But they’re smiling enough that the thing starts to feel temporary. It’ll come when it comes.

Guys, guys, guys, OMG, do you know what I just realised?
azurejay posted his bigbang today! This is important because, well:
A) The story is AMAZING. It is so perfect that I can't even explain it. From his Patrick voice, which is so completely spot on, to the pacing, to his writing style, which combines scenes with "snippets" of magazine articles and interviews. It is SO GOOD, you guys! (I'm going to go reread it for, like, the third time after I post this, even). You should probably read it!
B) I had the privilege of making the soundtrack/mix for this fabulous story! Not to brag, or anything, but this is a pretty fucking AWESOME mix. You should probably download it.

I have such a soft spot for the crazies, guys. This is relevant because I'm about to rec
savvygambols' Euphemisms For Insanity. This story is. It's a fucking aubergine dream, crazy as all fuck (mostly 'cause half the characters are), and FASCINATING. Colourful and lovely. Genish, more about the Spencer/Ryan friendship than anything else, but with hints of Ryan/Jon and Spencer/Brendon.
Ryan sits on Spencer’s bed, legs crossed, without socks or shoes on. He’s wearing the same floral shirt and the same green trousers that he showed up in two weeks ago.
“Ryan,” says Spencer, sitting in a chair next to his bed. “We need to talk.”
“You’re wooden! Fresh cut,” says Ryan, delighted, and Spencer decides to take this as a positive sign that Ryan wants to talk. It’s always a bit touch and go. Ryan had called him a watermelon a couple of days ago and Spencer had gotten smacked in the chin for thanking him.
“There’s something wrong with you,” Spencer begins. He wants to stress how terrible it is to Ryan, because it is terrible, for Spencer, but he’s not sure how. Ryan doesn’t seem to care that something is wrong with him and has been for the past two weeks. He doesn’t begin to care when Spencer says it out loud either.
“You talk in blues and yellows,” Ryan gives right back. But he doesn’t look tight, like Spencer feels. “Sometimes with a hint of pink.” He nods. “It’s a nice color combination on you, very flattering.”
“Oh,” says Spencer.
“I approve,” says Ryan.

Told You It's Hard to Breathe by
Spencer/Haley, Spencer/Jon (Spencer-centirc)
About Spencer and more-canon-than-not genderfuckery, and so, SO good. Sorry for the long quote, I'm just sort of madly in love with this.
It's a Wednesday so it's his day to fold the laundry, ball the socks up and fold denim shorts into three different laundry baskets (one for each room of the house). He likes folding actually, the quick snap of cloth under his hands when he makes the lines crisp like his mother likes them. He folds a blue shirt, a pair of jeans, a sun dress, another blue shirt, and then he pulls a purple camisole out of the snake's nest. It's like everything freezes.
The material is different than the nightgown, a bit scratchier, with lace at the neckline. His mother wears it under suit jackets for work.
He holds it up to his chest, over his Tony Hawk t-shirt. Spencer knows it probably won't fit, but he wants it. It's burning through him and eating at him, just below his navel and a few bites in his chest. He pulls his t-shirt off with shaking fingers and a quick glance at the door before he has it on.
Spencer can't risk going to the mirror because his dad could be home from work at any minute or his mom could come downstairs to start dinner. The best he has is the reflection on the television screen, distorted and too dark for details. The lace doesn't itch like he thought it would, and the camisole is lined with something, some sort of fabric they probably thought up in space, and it just feels--
He smiles at his reflection to see it smile back, reaches out and touches it because the person in the reflection doesn't seem to mind that his chest is just a touch too jiggly for a boy's or that his hands are starting to be too big for his body. The camisole is just a touch too tight, sort of uncomfortable the more he breathes.
But he feels all right in his skin, in the camisole made from space age fabric, until he remembers that he's wearing something that belongs to his mom, and his stomach turns because he doesn't know what it's supposed to mean.
Then the front door opens, and suddenly there isn't any need to worry about breathing.

I Taught Your Boyfriend that Thing You Like by
AU, Jared/Jensen, Chad, Alona, Sandy, etc.
This is 22000ish words long, which is awesome for me because I love long fic, and I love
It all started when Jared's best friend's girlfriend's roommate turned out to be a massive slut.

Sleeping/Dreaming Patterns by
AU, Brendon/Ryan
Panic never formed; Brendon is a solo musician who just returned from europe, and Ryan is a writer who likes fresh vegetables.
Spencer talked about Ryan a lot, anyway; new things he was doing, the funny thing he said last week, how he locked himself out of his apartment and instead of coming around to Spencer’s and getting the spare key like a normal person he sat on his front stoop for two and a half hours because he got an idea for a story and had to write it out right there and he ended up getting some mild form of frostbite. Spencer was frequently exasperated with Ryan but in a way that made Brendon grin, because it was clear all through it how much Spencer loved Ryan.
And Brendon liked it when people love other people. He wrote a whole song about it, and everything.
Oh! One other thing: I have iPod formatted versions of the Brent Wilson unofficial documentary thing that I can upload if anyone is interested, just let me know in the comments!
